Learning transformation in the era of Artificial Intelligence (AI) presents both opportunities and challenges for developing effective and interactive learning. This study aims to explore the forms and patterns of AI use, its support for effective and interactive learning, students’ perceptions, and the benefits and challenges of its use among students at SMA Negeri 1 Tampaksiring. The study employed a descriptive-exploratory qualitative approach. Data were collected through observations, interviews, a supporting questionnaire, and documentation involving 10 students and 2 teachers selected purposively as informants. Data were analyzed thematically through data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. Data trustworthiness was enhanced through source triangulation, technique triangulation, and member checking. The findings indicate that AI is primarily used to search for information, understand learning materials, complete assignments, develop ideas, and support independent learning. AI supports learning by providing access to information, alternative explanations, feedback, and opportunities for content exploration. Students expressed generally positive perceptions of the accessibility and usefulness of AI while recognizing the importance of verifying AI-generated information. Key benefits include improved understanding, learning efficiency, and independent learning, whereas challenges include dependence on AI, information inaccuracy, academic integrity, AI literacy, ethics, and privacy. AI should therefore be used as a learning assistant in a critical, ethical, and responsible manner.
