UTILIZING ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE TO EVALUATE STUDENTS’ COMPETENCY IN WRITING SIMPLE PAST TENSE

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the application of artificial intelligence (Copilot) in evaluating student writing in writing simple past tense. The method of this research is qualitative. The data collection technique was carried out by collecting 5 student writings randomly. The data analysis technique was carried out with qualitative descriptive method. The results showed that the copilot was able to create a rubric used to evaluate students' writing in writing simple past tense. This rubric consists of several parts, namely content development, organization, grammar and mechanics, usage and style. The results showed that copilots were able to evaluate well, such as being able to identify topic coverage, relevance, paragraph structure, transitions, sentence structure, spelling and punctuation, verb tense consistency and word choice. The feedback provided by Copilot is able to describe writing errors well and in detail. Teachers are advised to utilize artificial intelligence in the learning process, especially in evaluating student writing. Teachers can explore the use of artificial intelligence and its capabilities in language learning so that they can work more easily and effectively. Teachers can integrate AI tools such as Copilot into the assessment process, particularly grammar and tenses. The developer of AI should continuously refine AI capability to give more sophisticated feedback on complex transitions and sentence structures.

IMPROVING STUDENT’S READING COMPREHENSION THROUGH LOOK AND SAY METHOD

ABSTRACT

This research is aimed to find out whether or not the implementation of Look and Say Method improves students' reading comprehension. Look and Say is reading method applied during students’ learning activities. A class of accounting class in Triatma Mulya University is participated as the participant of the study. The required data were collected through the use of questionnaire, observation checklist, and reading test. The data from the questionnaire indicated that students had positive attitude toward the implementation of Look and Say method. They feel that Look and Say method improves their motivation in learning English and brings more fun to the process of learning. Moreover, it was found from observation data that the students were actively participated during Look and Say implementation and they were motivated when comprehending a text by means Look and Say method. Finally, the study proved that Look and Say method improved students’ reading comprehension. Students’ mean score of reading test in the beginning of the study was 50.02 meanwhile, after applying Look and Say Method as reading strategy, their mean scores improved to 72.3 ,77.96 and 86.22

TRANSLATION PROCEDURES USED BY THE ENGLISH EDUCATION STUDENTS IN TRANSLATING A CHILDREN STORY

This research aimed to identify translation procedures which were used by the students of English Education Study Program of Triatma Mulya University in translating children story in form of a legend. This research was a very simple research because it only tried to find out the students translation ability at the begining of joining the translation class. Therefore, the scope of the analysis and data was very simple and limited. The translation procedures proposed by Vinay and Darbelnet (1995) were used to analyze the translation of each phrase that was found in the source language. The research results showed that out of the seven translation procedures, there were four translation procedures which were used by the students, in which, the literal translation procedure was the most dominant procedure (76%). The three other procedures were modulation (10%), equivalence (8%), and transposition (6%).

Penelitian ini betujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara bahasa Jepang pada mahasiswa program studi DIV Pengelolaan Perhotelan Universitas Triatma Mulya dengan menerapkan pembelajaran berbasis proyek. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian tindakan kelas yang menerapkan model pembelajaran berbasis proyek untuk mencapai tujuan penelitian. Subjek penelitian ini sejumlah 18 orang. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan dengan langkah penelitian tindakan kelas yang terdiri dari perencanaan, pelaksanaan, observasi dan refleksi. Untuk mengukur kemampuan berbicara dilakukan dengan tes lisan yang dilakukan pada awal sebelum penelitian (pretes) dan setelah diterapkannya pembelajaran berbasis proyek. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah terdapat peningkatan kemampuan berbicara bahasa Jepang dengan nilai rata-rata awal pretes 69,4 menjadi 83. Model pembelajaran berbasis proyek lebih efektif untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara bahasa Jepang karena mahasiswa memperoleh pengalaman langsung untuk membuat proyek (brosur bahasa Jepang) dan menggunakannya sebagai promosi dalam bahasa Jepang. Mahasiswa telah menyampaikan brosur bahasa Jepang tersebut secara lisan dan menciptakan kreativitas mahasiswa.

Imagination is a process of the brain that captures the reaction of what we see, hear, and feel.The brain stores so much memory every day. Until the memory finally begins to form a pattern that then stimulates the brain to plan something and also someone's emotions can become an imagination.But One opinion of imagination was put forward by Jean paul Sartre, Sartre made a strong claim that the image given in the act of imagination can never be a source of knowledge, Sartre asserted that the attitude of imagination is indeed one observation, the fire is an observation that is not teaching nothing but an affirmation of emptiness. The author wants to analyze the work of postmoderen design by Fabio novembre with the discussion of the concept of the imagination of Sartre, This is the background of the author in the making of this paper, entitled: Analysis of artwork design postmoderen with the concept of imagination jean paul Sartre as for the conclusion obtained that is, In Novembre design work if viewed from the standpoint of sartre at the level of the design drawings of the novembre created is just a color on paper, then tend to consider the feelings that the audience has when looking at novembre design is an analogon and can take new quality based on the intention of the designers themselves against it.

ENHANCING SPEAKING SKILL THROUGH SPINNING WHEEL MEDIA OF STUDENTS MAJORING IN TRAVEL MANAGEMENT AT TRIATMA MULYA UNIVERSITY

Speaking skills, especially in presenting something like destinations, attractions and etc are critical for students to comprehend, particularly those majoring in travel management. Communication is deemed good when a tour guide can convey information or facts about a location or anything to guests in a clear and efficient manner. Several strategies are used to develop the speaking abilities of travel management students, one of them is by using a spinning wheel media which consists of several questions which are then answered by the students within a predetermined amount of time. This study investigated the efficacy of employing a spinning wheel media to improve the speaking abilities of students majoring in travel management and also to address the demand for practical and engaging speaking activities suited to the unique context of travel management students. A mixed-methods approach was used, with pre and posttest evaluations, observations, and students’ feedback. Overall, the findings indicated that implementing creative and interactive speaking exercises, such as the spinning wheel media, can considerably improve speaking skills among travel management students which was demonstrated by an increase in students’ pretest scores from 67.25% to 84.75% at the post test. Similarly, students claimed that they were more passionate about learning through this media since they were more pushed and challenged to be able to talk more about the topics they had learned. Further research is needed to determine the long-term impacts and potential applicability of this strategy in other educational settings.

PENERAPAN APLIKASI OLAH KATA PERSUASI DALAM KEHIDUPAN SOSIAL KEMASYARAKATAN

Penelitian ini menguraikan penerapan aplikasi studi olah kata persuasi yang dapat dimanfaatkan dalam kehidupan sosial kemasyarakatan. Penerapan studi olah kata ini menggunakan kalimat persuasi yang memiliki makna kalimat yang digunakan untuk memengaruhi seseorang agar berniat mengikuti hal yang disampaikan oleh komunikator. Metode pengumpulan dan analisis data ini memakai studi literatur atau kepustakaan. Adapun pembahasan ini adalah konsep olah kata persuasi ini dimaknai adanya pemakaian kata-kata yang didesain sedemikian rupa oleh pembicara untuk dapat memersuasi atau mengajak atau memengaruhi pendengar agar mau menuruti keinginan si pembicara dan juga adanya upaya pemaknaan secara pragmatis. Contoh aplikasi olah kata persuasi dan makna secara pragmatis adalah Setiap saat kita memberikan perhatian kepada seseorang yang kita cintai tapi nanti saat perayaan Valentine atau hari kasih sayang yang jatuh pada 14 Februari 2024, mari jatuhkan hatimu pada orang yang akan membangun negeri ini untuk menuju Indonesia yang lebih baik. Makna kalimat itu adalah pemilihan umum akan dilaksanakan pada 14 Februari 2024 dan diharapkan seluruh masyarakat Indonesia melakukan pemilihan dan menggunakan hati nurani dalam memilih calon pemimpin Indonesia.

THE UNIQUENESS OF THE BARIS MEMEDI DANCE IN THE TRADITIONAL VILLAGE OF JATILUWIH, TABANAN, BALI

Baris Memedi Dance is a sacred dance performed as part of the ritual infrastructure during the mass cremation ceremony (Ngaben Massal) in the Jatiluwih Traditional Village. The main issue addressed in this journal is the uniqueness exclusive to the Baris Memedi Dance. Therefore, the objective of this research is to explore and gain a deeper understanding of the uniqueness and distinctive characteristics found only in the Baris Memedi Dance in the Jatiluwih Traditional Village. The research type employed in this journal is qualitative research, with the data collection method being literature review. Based on the method used, the data revealed uniqueness in costume, makeup, and dance style. The distinctive feature of the Baris Memedi Dance is that it must be performed in an odd number, using costumes resembling dried leaves, dried banana leaves, or rice plant, creating the appearance of supernatural beings (Memedi). The dancers also use fabrics from graves, and their faces are painted with charcoal from graves to resemble Memedi (supernatural beings). The Baris Memedi dancers are adorned in a way that gives them a frightening appearance. Baris Memedi dancers can perform in a conscious state or semi-conscious state, but they remain in control.
