Abstract

Disciplinary behavior still become crucial issue for students, specifically students of SMK Negeri 3 Sukawati. A more in-depth approach is crucially needed, for instance understanding students' emotional intelligence which help understand the extent to which emotional intelligence contributes to the formation of student discipline, as a basis for developing appropriate intervention strategies. This study aimed to analyse the correlation between emotional intelligence and disciplinary behavior of class XI students of SMK Negeri 3 Sukawati. The method was a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The population of this study consisted of 312 students. The sample involved 175 grade XI students who were determined by proportion random sampling. The data collection was obtained from instruments in the form of emotional intelligence scales and disciplinary behavior that have been categorized as valid and reliable instruments. The data analysis technique was the Pearson Product Moment correlation technique assisted by IBM SPSS version 23.0. The results showed that there was a positive and significant relationship between the emotional intelligence variable and the disciplinary behavior variable of class XI students of SMK Negeri 3 Sukawati. Emotional intelligence contributes 50.69% to students' disciplinary behavior, while the remaining 49.31% is contributed by other variables. Therefore, it can be concluded that emotional intelligence is closely related to the formation of student disciplinary behavior at the secondary school level
