Abstract

Konsep pewarisan sifat merupakan salah satu konsep fundamental dalam pembelajaran genetika yang perlu dipahami oleh mahasiswa calon guru IPA. Namun, karateristik konsep yang abstrak dan perlu penalaran yang mendalam menyebabkan pemahaman konseptual mahasiswa cenderung rendah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis secara deskriptif pemahaman konseptual pewarisan sifat Mendel mahasiswa calon guru IPA. Pendekatan penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kuantitatif dengan subjek penelitian sejumlah 40 mahasiswa calon guru IPA yang telah menempuh mata kuliah genetika makhluk hidup. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah tes uraian dengan mengacu pada 4 subkonsep pewarisan sifat Mendel. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rerata secara keseluruhan pemahaman konseptual mahasiswa calon guru IPA mencapai 47,22% pada kategori sedang. Hasil ini mengindikasikan bahwa terdapat lebih dari separuh mahasiswa yang belum memiliki pemahaman konseptual yang memadai terkait konsep pewarisan sifat Mendel, sehingga perlu ada perhatian yang lebih besar dalam proses pembelajaran konsep ini sebagai upaya untuk mengoptimalkan tujuan pembelajaran dan kualitas pendidikan di Indonesia.
